It was 42 degrees outside, but I knew that I had to get somewhere and the weather was not going to stop me today! This is the time of year and season to give back to those who are in need. Well, I had recently had that opportunity when volunteering at the Atlanta Community Food Bank!. When arriving there, I was not sure what I was going to do. I met with fellow Anthem co-workers and the Marietta East Lions Club who hosted this fantastic event! I was told to be ready to do some work and have some fun!...

The place that I stop at was the Smith Family Cabin and the Atlanta History Center. The Smith Family Cabin was visited in an 1860's farm and meet living history characters who share the challenges of life during the Civil War. I had an excellent delightful conversation with the character actor Jasper Smith as he tells tales of the civil war and examines his modest crops and farm animals.  Here is some information below about the Smith Family Cabin from the Atlanta History Center:

"The Smith Family Farm includes the Tullie Smith House, a plantation-plain house built in the 1840s by the Robert Smith family. Originally located east of Atlanta, outside the city limits, the house survived the destruction in and around Atlanta during the Civil War. The house and detached kitchen were moved to the Atlanta History Center in the early 1970s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house and separate open-hearth kitchen are now surrounded by a dairy, blacksmith s...

One of the benefits of living in Atlanta, Georgia that there is so many things to see and do.  So this month for my birthday I decided to do a staycation.  You may ask what is a staycation? A staycation is a vacation spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.  This is the first time in a long time that I treated myself in being a tourist in the city that I live in.

I first visited the Swan House in the rich side of Buckhead, Atlanta. Edward Inman, the heir to a large cotton blockage fortune amassed in the post-Civil War "New South" era, was a wealthy Atlanta businessman with interests in real estate, transportation, and banking.  In 1924, he and his wife Emily hired the architectural firm of Hentz, Reid, neighborhood located about six miles north of downtown.  This place was also filmed in the movie  The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and it had its own tour.

2016 has been the best year for Hydrangeas!  Douglasville, Georgia is celebrating by having the 9th Annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival !  This year the festival reflects on the purpose of portraying the beauty, traditions, and diversity of America ! The origins of the festival's theme is the "Blue Wave" Hydrangea (see the picture above) !  This type of hydrangea is one of the finest of all hydrangea lacecaps and is a usually  strong and hardy grower.  This distinctive plant's numerous large ray flowers circle the tiny center flowers amongst the supporting dark green foliage.  When grown in light shade, there are few flowering shrubs of any kind which can equal this beauty!   "America, the Beautiful !" is an Americana phrase that indicates our love for America and the "Blue Wave" certainly inspires our affection!

The first place I had a chance to visited was the Standard Flower Show.  The theme title of the show is America the Beauti...

I always love to travel and discover what is new in every location that I visit even if it is my backyard.  I had the priviledge of going to a nature cultural hike with the Keeping It Wild group at the local state park called Sweetwater Park.  Keeping It Wild (http://keepingitwild.org/) is quote "was created in 2005 by several Atlanta citizen-advocates who perceived the need to bring together members of diverse conservation communities in order to promote better stewardship for the natural lands in our area." A quote from the Keeping It Wild website states "We promote the enjoyment of the outdoors by overcoming barriers and providing opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds, interests and experience levels to explore our natural environment in new and exciting ways.  We connect diverse individuals and families to the land and each other by encouraging hands-on experiences through hikes, outings, educational opportunities and community-building partnerships."  I had a chan...
