Medical Nutritional Therapy

What is Medical Nutrition Therapy?

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) involves the assessment of a client's nutritional status who has been diagnosed with a condition, illness, or injury that puts them at risk. Based on an individualized assessment, nutrition intervention is developed to manage or treat the condition, illness, or injury.

Nutrition intervention includes diet modification & counseling, specialized nutrition therapies, and nutrition monitoring & evaluation. MNT services help individuals maintain health, eliminate the need for medication, prevent medical complications, & decrease hospitalization rates. Many specific conditions are successfully treated with nutrition therapy. MNT combined with the appropriate lifestyle & behavior changes are key in prevention & optimizing quality of life.

Reimbursement for nutrition services (or medical nutrition therapy) is highly variable depending on your insurance carrier and plan, as well as patient diagnosis.  Therefore, payment is expected when services are rendered.  You will be given a superbill to provide to your insurance company which includes all insurance codes needed for reimbursement after each visit.

First-time appointments are billed as an Initial Session and last approximately one hour. Follow-up Sessions last about 55 minutes. It is recommended that every client schedule at least one Follow-up Session, usually within one week after the Initial Session. Make sure to click this link to start your first session - Schedule a Session with Denine Rogers   This service is only for insurance clients who reside in the State of Georgia, Texas, North Carolina and Oregon USA.

How Long is an Initial and Follow-Up Nutrition Session?

An initial nutrition session is 60 minutes and the follow-up is either 50 or 55 minutes, depending on your goals.

How Frequently Are Follow-Up Nutrition Appointments Scheduled?

Follow-up visit frequency is case dependent. At the initial session, we will decide on what works best in terms of the timeframe for follow-up visits depending on your condition. The average amount of follow-up visits is 8-12 sessions visits. Also, the number of follow-up sessions will depend on your condition, progression and needs.
