There is History on Your Dinner Plate!

I genuinely agree with the Former First Lady Michelle Obama; there is so much history of being made. One thing that has never been taught in the past was what foods worldwide come from Africa, influenced by African food. So many of the cuisines that we eat today, Africans played a significant role in creating American Cuisine, particularly in the Caribbean territories and the southern states. This time of acknowledgment is long overdue!

Check out a fellow registered dietitian and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics - Cordialis Msora-Kasago website: http://theafricanpotnutrition.com/ where you can receive incredible food and nutrition information emphasizing Africa and the African Diaspora.

For Black History, I will highlight in the African Diaspora where certain regions in Africa, the Caribbean, South America, and the US have some of the food items currently on your meal plan and table.

Also, check out Oldways for further information about the healthy African Heritage Healthy Plate - https://oldwayspt.org/. Oldways have excellent information on eating based on people's nourishing food traditions with African roots.

So let us start learning and doing more cultural appreciation than cultural appropriation today!
